Overview
This will be from the world-famous tourist destination Sigiriya to the Down South of Sri Lanka which owns golden sandy beaches. The journey will through the misty central hills.
Itinerary
Day 1 :
Dambulla, Sigiriya
- Arrival at Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport and Transfer to Dambulla, approximately a 3 ½ hrs drive.
- Overnight stay at Dambulla.
Day 2 :
Dambulla Rock Temple, Sigiriya, Minneriya National Park
- Breakfast at the hotel, and visit Dambulla Cave Temple; the largest and best preserved Buddhist temple complex that owns magnificent frescoes and Lord Buddha statues. This cave temple is situated on a rock that’s 160 meters above the surrounding plain areas. Dambulla has been declared a world heritage site by UNESCO.
- Drive to Sigiriya, an ancient rock fortress that’s also a world heritage site that was built with unbelievable creativity and technology. Sigiriya has been built by King Kashyapa(477 - 495 CE) for his kingdom; the ground level of the fortress was the royal park and it consists of water fountains. The royal palace is located on the top of the Sigiriya rock, which also consists of water pools. - Drive to Minneriya National Park approximately 30 minutes drive, afternoon safari in Minneriya National park.
- Drive to Polonnaruwa approximately 40 minutes drive from Minneriya National Park entrance.
- Overnight stay at Polonnaruwa
Day 3 :
Polonnaruwa, Matale
- Breakfast at the hotel, an ancient site visit in the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, the second capital of Sri Lanka established by Chola invaders. King Vijayabahu I has been defeated the Chola invaders in 1070 and reunite the country. He has made one of the most prominent eras in Sri Lankan history. Irrigation systems with unbelievable technology, and Buddhist monasteries with huge dagobas still can witness in this great ancient city.
- Lunch at a recommended restaurant in Polonnaruwa.
- Drive with you to Matale and visit the spice garden, this is approximately a 2 ½ hours drive.
- Next drive to Kandy it’s an approximately 1-hour drive.
- Overnight stay at Kandy.
Day 4 :
Pinnawala, Peradeniya, Kandy
- Transfer to Sigiriya will take nearly 2 hour's drive from Trincomalee
- Breakfast at a recommended restaurant in Pinnawala.
- Visit the Royal Botanical Gardens of Peradeniya.
- Lunch at a recommended restaurant in Peradeniya.
- Drive back to Kandy and visit the Temple of Tooth Relic; one of the most sacred places of Buddhists all around the world.
- Shopping around Kandy, the city is an exceptional place to shop for souvenirs, handicrafts, gems, and handloom clothes. You can witness the production process of these things and get knowledge about these industries.
- Visit Kandy viewpoint; the place that has an enchanting view of the city of Kandy.
- Visit to watch the Kandy cultural show; this will show you major events that performing on the famous Kandy Esala Perahera.
- Back to the hotel; Overnight stay at Kandy.
Day 5 :
Nuwara Eliya
- Breakfast at the hotel; Drive to Nuwara Eliya.
- On the way to Nuwara Eliya; Our guide will take you to see a tea plantation and a tea factory that will teach you how the world-famous Ceylon Tea is produced. Then you will visit Ramboda waterfalls and Ramboda viewpoint, which owns one of the most attractive views of central hills in Sri Lanka.
-Visit Pink Post Office Nuwara Eliya; this has been built by British colonials in 1894, it’s a Tudor-style red brick building with a clock spire.
- Next visit will be to Victoria Park, Nuwara Eliya.
- Lunch at a recommended restaurant in Nuwara Eliya.
- Then you will be visiting Lake Gregory Park; this has the most fascinating views in Nuwara Eliya and there are some water sports such as jet skiing, and swan boat riding.
- Evening safari in Minneriya National Park
- Overnight stay at Nuwara Eliya.
Day 6 :
Horton Plains, Ella
- Depart to Horton Plains at 5.30 am from the hotel this will be an approximately 20-minute drive.
- Trekking in Horton Plains National Park, it’s a plateau that is situated in the southern part of the central highlands of Sri Lanka. Montane grasslands, forests covered area that owns high temperature varying as 27°C in the daytime and 5°C at night time. Horton Plains is the headwaters for many major rivers of Sri Lanka with fresh crystal clear water. You can see the baker’s waterfalls and a 4000 ft vertical drop called World’s End. Transfer you to Nanu Oya Railway Station for the train journey to Ella.
- Then we will meet you at Ella Railway Station.
- Lunch at a recommended restaurant in Ella.
- Visit the Nine Arch Bridge, a bridge that was built in British colonial times for a train ride; next visit Ella Rock and Dova Ancient Buddhist Temple.
- On the way to Mirissa; visit Buduruwagala Ancient Buddhist Temple
- Transfer you to Mirissa, Overnight stay at Mirissa.
Day 7 :
Whale Watching, Departure
- Depart the hotel to watch dolphins and whales.
- Back to the hotel and take your breakfast.
