The Golden Cave Temple

Dambulla Cave Temple is another UNESCO world heritage site that is situated in the central part of the country; 178 km away from Colombo and 72 km away from Kandy. The rock of this place towers 160 meters from the ground level and has a stunning overlooking the surrounding plains. These caves has been developed as hermitages in the first century BCE. The most important of the Dambulla Cave Temple is it’s the best-preserved and still functioning monastery complex from ancient times in Sri Lanka. There are more than 80 documented caves, but the major tourist-attracted things are just 5 caves. These major 5 caves consist of 153 statues of Lord Buddha, frescoes of his life, 3 statues of Srilankan kings, 4 statues of gods, and frescoes of gods and goddesses.
