Kandy is the last kingdom of ancient Sri Lanka, established in the 15th century and endured in the 19th century. The kingdom was established after the weakening of the kingdom of Kotte due to Portuguese invaders. The location of Kandy is a mountainous and highly forested area this was made hard to achieve for any person who is unfamiliar with this area. This was the reason to establish Kandy as the capital city of Sri Lanka at that time. The temple of the Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha is located inside the royal palace of the Kingdom of Kandy. The temple denotes the culture of the whole country of Sri Lanka; the annual ceremony of the temple called Esala Perahera is one of the most famous ceremonies around the world. The frescoes, stone pattern creations, and wooden pattern creations are really attractive inside the temple. You can witness and learn the whole legend of this great Srilankan era at the museum attached to the temple. Because of its archaeological importance, UNESCO has declared Kandy a World Heritage site.
