Minneriya National Park

Best Place to Meet Giants

Minneriya National Park is located in the North central province, 67 kilometers away from Anuradhapura and 37 kilometers away from Polonnaruwa. The park has been declared a National Park in 1997 to protect catchment areas of the Minneriya tank and wildlife in the surrounding areas. It has a high density of Sri Lankan Elephants; it’s a dread season feed area for elephants from Matale, Trincomalee, and Polonnaruwa. Large gatherings of elephants can be seen frequently around the Minneriya Tank; so this is another paradise for elephant lovers. Other wildlife like endemic monkeys purple-faced langur and toque macaque, and large herbivorous mammals such as Sri Lankan sambar deer, and Sri Lankan axis deer frequent the park. You can have an evening safari in Minneriya on your visit to the ancient destinations of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa.
